Caisse des Dépôts a member of the PRI Leaders Group in 2020

Caisse des Dépôts

Energie et environnement

For the 2nd consecutive year, Caisse des Dépôts is part of the Leaders Group of PRI (Principles for Responsible Investment). This is a great recognition for its responsible investment policy and its climate policy.

PRI, what is it?

PRI is the main global initiative for responsible investment (RI), bringing together more than 3,000 signatories under the sponsorship of the United Nations, who jointly manage or own more than $100,000bn.  This international network brings together investors mobilized to promote responsible investment and the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues into investment decisions.

Each year, signatories complete a detailed questionnaire on their implementation of the Principles, from the overall responsible investment strategy to its detailed implementation by asset class. It is subject to an evaluation.

In 2020, Caisse des Dépôts, which reports via the Asset Management Department, Banque des Territoires and STOA, received an A+ rating (the highest on a scale from E to A) for its overall RI strategy, as well as for its application to listed shares held directly. Ratings on the other asset classes (delegated management of equities, bonds, private equity, infrastructure, and real estate) are between B and A.

Caisse des Dépôts a member of the Leaders Group for the 2nd consecutive year

For the 2nd consecutive year, Caisse des Dépôts is part of the PRI Leaders Group. For the past 2 years, this group has been identifying the most advanced PRI signatories on specific themes and asset classes, based on the responses to the annual questionnaire.

This year, the assessment focused on climate reporting and the implementation of the recommendations of the Taskforce on Climate Financial Disclosure (transparency reference framework on the impact of climate on the risks and strategy of companies, including financial companies) on all of its asset classes.

To be selected, investors had to demonstrate good overall ESG performance and demonstrate that their strategic approach was aligned with the TCFD. 36 institutions are part of the Leaders Group in 2020, i.e. 2% of the respondents to the questionnaire. For Caisse des Dépôts, this is therefore a great recognition of its responsible investment and climate policy.

In 2005, the United Nations invited the world's main investors to come together around six Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI): take ESG issues into account in investment analysis and decision-making processes; be active investors and take ESG issues into account in shareholder policies and practices; require invested companies to publish appropriate information on ESG issues; promote acceptance and application of the Principles among asset management stakeholders; work together to increase efficiency in the application of the Principles; report individually on activities and progress in the application of the Principles.Caisse des Dépôts responded to this call 15 years ago and is one of the founding members of this international network, which it has been actively involved in its development ever since.

Caisse des Dépôts in action: in addition to its Responsible Investment Charter, published in 2012, the institution has published a climate policy that explains what is expected of its financial businesses in terms of 5 action levers: financing the ecological and energy transition; assessing and managing climate risk; excluding thermal coal; developing shareholder commitment in favour of the transition; decarbonising portfolios.
